Species Protection

Amphibian mapping in the area of the L 113 road at the lake Maria Laach

Bilder 1 Images

In the area of the lake Maria Laach, in the road sections L113 and K70, significant amphibian migrations between the terrestrial habitats and the spawning habitats in the shore area of Lake Laach are known to occur. Due to the number of individuals observed to date (around 16,000 individuals in 2011), it was necessary to retrofit the L113 with amphibian protection facilities as a permanent installation for reasons of nature conservation and road safety. Detailed knowledge of the local amphibian species spectrum, the number of individuals of a species and the migration movements and relationships was essential for the proper planning of the permanent installation to avoid and minimise the above-mentioned problems.
