Team Leader/ Project Manager for International Road and Infrastructure Projects (m/w/d)




- Lead the project team (engineers, consultants, contractors, etc.) in the planning, implementation, and completion of the project.
- Ensure the project is delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Oversee daily operations and ensure that the team adheres to project plans and schedules.
- Take responsibility for overall project performance, including quality, cost, and compliance with standards.
- Lead and participate in meetings, presentations, and reports to communicate progress, challenges, and solutions.
- Facilitate coordination between multidisciplinary teams, including international experts, local staff, and subcontractors.
- Implement and monitor quality control measures across all phases of the project.
- Coordinate site visits, inspections, and audits as required.
- Oversee contract administration, including managing changes, claims, and ensuring that deliverables are met according to contractual obligations.
- Report financial status and forecasts to stakeholders, ensuring the project remains within financial limits.
- Prepare and submit regular progress reports, including technical, financial, and operational updates, to stakeholders.
- Ensure that the project adheres to all local and international environmental, social, and safety standards.
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Engineering or a related field (Bachelor’s or, more commonly, a Master’s Degree)
- Advanced degrees (e. g., M.Sc., MBA, or PhD) in project management, transportation,or engineering are often an advantage
- Certifications like PMP (Project Management Professional), PRINCE2, or similar are highly desirable
- 20+ years of experience in road construction, rehabilitation or infrastructure projects
- Proven experience in leading teams on international road infrastructure projects
- Extensive work in developing countries or emerging markets is often preferred, especially on projects funded by international organizations (World Bank, ADB, etc.)
- Experience in FIDIC contracts (International Federation of Consulting Engineers) for project management
- Familiarity with road design and construction standards and their application in different countries
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, including local governments, contractors, and international donors
- Ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary and cross-cultural teams
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Effective communication skills to interface with senior management, clients, stakeholders, and team members
- Proven track record in delivering projects on time and within budget
- Fluency in English is mandatory
- Knowledge of World Bank, ADB, EU or other donor agencies’ procurement and project implementation guidelines
- Awareness of environmental and social safeguards required by international funding agencies
- Willingness to work in remote locations and travel frequently
- Ability to adapt to different environments and manage site-based work over extended periods
- Experience in enforcing health, safety, and environmental regulations in construction projects
- Familiarity with best practices and international HSE standards
- Ability to oversee contract administration, including change management, claims, and dispute resolution
- Skills in budget management, financial reporting, and cost control
