The preliminary impact assessment serves to determine whether the NATURA 2000 site may be affected by the project ‘Reconstruction and expansion of the Haiger wastewater treatment plant’ and whether significant adverse effects on the conservation objectives are to be expected as a result. If adverse effects can be ruled out, no impact assessment needs to be initiated after this assessment step. However, a Habitats Directive impact assessment is required if a site of communal importance may be significantly affected by a project.
